Slow Fast Song
This is a traditional finger play which I have put to a melody to.
It is always a hit with children five and under. There is something
irresistible about the anticipation of going from slow to fast! You
can enhance this by singing quietly, almost secretively on the slow
parts. It’s great for building listening skills, following
directions, vocabulary for babies, and of course, rhythm. Of course
the most important thing is that it’s FUN! This is one of those
ridiculously simple songs you can pull out on days when nothing
seems to be working. As usual, simple is best!
Slow Fast Song
Clap, clap, clap your hands as slowly as you can
Clap, clap, clap your hands as quickly as you can
(repeat with shake, pound, roll your hands, and pat
your face)
TIPS:
¨ Older
children inevitably make a big deal of patting their faces hard,
saying “ow!” each time. So be ready for their silliness!
¨ When
you sing this with infants and very young children, be aware of how
quickly they are able to manipulate their hands and try not to get
ahead of them.
