Years
ago I was reading a book about holiday traditions around the
world, and came across this, “In Norway children get ready for
Christmas by getting a good scrubbing from head to toe.”
I thought this was very fun, and a great opportunity for a song!
I talk with young children about their traditions around bath
time which, of course, vary from culture to culture and family
to family. But it’s just something different and fun to sing
about at Christmas.
Before we sing I tell children to get
out their special Christmas wash cloths, get them all soapy
sudsy- and start washing! I’ve even had some preschools do this
as a Holiday performance using brightly colored wash cloths and
pretending to wash all over, then follow the lyrics in the
second verse.
Rub A Dub Dub
CHORUS:
Rub a dub dub, three kids in a tub
Gettin’ ready for a holiday night
Rub a dub dub, with soap and water they scrub
Getting’ ready to start their holiday right
In Norway, so far away, all the children getting’ ready for the
holiday
Wash fingers and toes, elbows and nose
So when the holiday comes they’re ready to go
(CHORUS)
Can you wash your face?
Can you wash your toes?
Can you scrub your elbows?
Can you rub your nose?
(CHORUS)
