This
simple song builds listening skills, coordination, and self
control. For fun, you can put down a piece of removable masking
tape, winding it around the room. Instruct children to try to
stay on the line. Or, if you have a carpet with a border, that
can be your line. If you are outside, take your guitar or other
instrument (could even be a tambourine or other rhythm
instrument) and play and sing as you follow a path or marked
shape on a playground. Look for lines and large circles in your
environment, inside and out- even chalk on the playground, or a
driveway. Ask the children to come up with ideas of where they
could follow a line. And of course if you don’t have a line,
just change the words to walk “in” a line. Problem solved!
TIP: Let children know
ahead of time that there will be silence (except for ticking
sound),
and they are to freeze until
next instructions are sung.
