Sing this sweet little song to a baby in your arms or with a group of toddlers or preschoolers. Ask older children for ideas for additional verses.

You can also place animal shapes on a felt board, or hand out a different animal to each child who can place it on the board as you sing. The simple chorus allows children to sing along as the song becomes chant-like.

I Saw A Little Doggie

I saw a little doggie smiling at me
Sittin’ in the grass just as happy as can be
And he said, “Ruff, ruff, ruff, ruff, ruff”

I saw a little kitty cat smiling at me
Sittin’ on the rug as happy as can be
And she said, “Meow, meow, meow, meow, meow”

I saw a little birdie smiling at me
Sittin’ on a branch just as happy as can be
And he said, “Tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet.”

I saw my grandpa smiling at me
Sittin’ in his rocking chair as happy as can be
And he said, “Honey, I love you
And I said, “Grandpa I love you too.”
