My 18-month old grandson, like most children LOVES hats! When he
arrives he searches out the collection and assigns everyone a
hat to wear. I’m not really a hat person, so I came up with this
song to make it more fun (for me - and him!). Children do love
hats, and this song is a great way to actually use them as
props. Of course very young children can just put on hats and
dance around. But even my little grandson followed the
directions as I made up this song. These simple repeated motions
will build listening skills, and both fine and gross motor
skills- and they definitely make hat wearing even more fun!
Motions:
Every time you say “fancy that,” lift hat on
fancy, put it back
on your head on that. Freeze on the musical breaks in the chorus
(see lyrics below)
Other motions are self-explanatory
NOTE:
If you don’t have enough hats for your group, they can be
purchased inexpensively at dollar stores, party stores, and toy
stores. Of course firefighter and construction worker hats are
favorites. But you can also purchase fun used hats at your local
thrift store. You can’t have too many hats where kids are
concerned!
Everybody
Has A Hat
Chorus:
Everybody has a hat on his head, now fancy that, fancy that
Everybody has a hat on her head, now fancy that, fancy that
Everybody has a hat (freeze) now fancy that, fancy that
Take your hat off your head. Wave it around in the air
Put it back on your head, take it off, put it back, leave it
there, oh----- (CHORUS)
INSTRUMENTAL CHORUS
Fancy that, fancy that fancy that, fancy that
Some people wear hats at work, some people wear hats at play
Some people wear hats to keep out the sun, some to keep the rain
away oh------(CHORUS)
Everybody has a hat on his head, now fancy that, fancy that
Everybody has a hat on her head, now fancy that, fancy that
Everybody has a hat (freeze) now fancy that, fancy that
Take your hat off your head. Wave it around in the air
Put it back on your head, take it off, put it on, leave it there
