This September marks the 2004 Summer Olympic Games, and offers a wonderful and welcome opportunity to teach children about this peaceful and honored event. Since the internet has brought me into classrooms all around the world, I wanted this song to be relevant to all countries. My hope is that many children in many countries will sing as citizens of the world. Please visit the linked websites for great ideas about related activities, songs, games, and interesting facts and information. Let the Games Begin!

Hooray for the Games!

They are coming together from all around the world
To the games that will celebrate the best
Every athlete has worked many years for this day
Every athlete has already passed the test

CHORUS:
So hooray for the silver, hooray for the gold
Hooray for the bronze medal too
We will cheer for our country, we will wave our flag on high
We will celebrate with peace and good will too

Oh the rings they are five, as the lands of all the world
And in friendship they join together now
Every man, every woman, every team will do its best
We will cheer when the winners take a bow

Now the torch has been carried and passed from hand to hand
To arrive at the start of the games
It will burn brightly still, spreading peace and good will
It will shine for all the friends it has made
