Felt Board Train Song
Copyright 2006 Nancy Stewart
Use the patterns
to make train parts from felt. Add each piece of the train to the felt board
as you sing. Lead
children in the following motions as you sing:
First two lines of each verse, arms bent at sides, moving in circles like
train wheels. Move in rhythm to the song.
Last line, reach up with one fist to pull the train whistle as you sing (woo
woo)
Felt Board Train Song
Here comes the engine, clickety clack
Shiny and black on the railroad track
Woo woo! Woo woo!
Here comes the blue car, clickety clack
To join the train on the railroad track
Woo woo! Woo woo!
(repeat with yellow and green, and other colors if you want)
Now here comes the ...
Red caboose going clickety clack
At the back of the train on the railroad track
Woo, woo! Woo, woo!
Engine and cars, and caboose on the back
Go clickety clack on the railroad track
Woo woo! Woo woo! Woo woo! Woo woo!
VARIATION 1:
Make extra felt train cars, and give one to each child. Children can place
their cars on the felt board as you sing each color.
VARIATION 2:
Use as a movement song instead. Choose one child to be the engine, another
to be the caboose, and the rest of the children can be the cars. Give each
of the children who are the cars a sticky dot, so they will know what color
car they are. Have the engine child start moving around the room as you
sing. .Other children join the train as you add verses singing different
colors. As you sing each verse have the children with the sung color get up
and join the train as they wind around the room.
VARIATION 3:
Use any of the above versions, but instead of colors, assign types of cars
to the children, or make felt pieces for them (coal car, freight car, etc.).
