This song invites you to just walk around your community and help your child find things that rhyme. Take pictures of them, and then make a book with the rhyming words printed out. For even more fun, have your child or children in the picture too! They will love having a book of these words with them in it. And along the way they will come to understand what rhymes are. And that in turn will help get them ready to read! Watch my SHORT VIDEO (opens in a new window) on rhyming and how it builds phonological awareness.

In Our Community

In our community we have ducks, in our comm unity we have trucks
In our community we have plants, in our community we have ants
In our community we have dogs, in our community we have frogs
In our community we have cats, in our community we have bats

CHORUS:
Take a little time and you can always find
Something that rhymes with another
If you see a boy playing with a toy,
Look around you’ll probably see a mother
A dad or a sister or a brother

On our community we have books, In our community we have cooks
In our community we have trees, in our community we have bees
(CHORUS)

In our community we have rocks, in our community we have docks
In our community we have boats, in our community we have notes
In our community we have chimes,
In our community we have lots of rhymes
