Here’s
a fun little song about donuts (also spelled doughnouts), which
are enjoying a current boost in popularity with young children
right now. Print out the accompanying book to read and sing.
The lyrics offer examples of rhyming, alliteration (building
phonological awareness in early literacy), and informal American
speech (whaddya, and eatin’). Children understand these words,
but for ESL students it offers a less formal but typical
experience with the English
language.
Ducky Has A Donut
Ducky has a donut, Doggie has
a donut,
Froggy has a donut too
Monkey has a donut, Mousie has a donut
Whaddya think they’re gonna do
Ducky’s eatin’ his donut, Doggie’s eatin’ his donut
Froggy’s eatin’ her donut too
Monkey’s eatin’ his donut, Mousie’s eatin’ her donut
You can eat a donut too
Donuts, the funny cake with a hole
Hold it up and you can see me through it
Donuts the funny cake with a hole
You can’t eat the middle ‘cause there’s nothing’ to it
Ducky has a donut, Doggie has a donut,
Froggy has a donut too
Monkey has a donut, Mousie has a donut
You can have a donut too,
You can have a donut too
