As part of my Sing With Our Kids project, I have tried to connect with year-round festivities and rituals around singing. One of my favorites has always been the Maypole, and since I started the project in 2012, I have done the Maypole many times with children, families, and even librarians! I'm doing it as my April Song of the Month to give you time to build your own and be ready for May 1st. You'll find complete instructions on how to do that here. Although that is the traditional day to a Maypole dance, it is a wonderful event year round, indoors or out!

Note that this is done "a cappella" (that is, singing without accompaniment), so even if you don't know how to play an instrument, you can still enjoy singing it to (and with) your kids!

Maypole Song

Walk around the Maypole to welcome in the spring
Walk around the Maypole, together we will sing.

Walk into the middle and walk back out again
Walk into the middle and walk back out again

Repeat above as long as everyone is having a good time!
