Henry the Dog was the hit song from my summer reading program this year. I wrote it to accompany my limberjack dog. A limberjack is a wonderful folk toy and rhythm instrument, and children are absolutely enthralled with it!

At the bottom of this page you can watch a video of my best friend Marylee demonstrating the limberjack while singing this song.

To use this song without a limberjack:
Use this song for dramatic play. The children can all be “Henry the Dog.” During the song, instruct them to walk around the room (on all fours, like a dog of course!). As the spoken lyrics instruct, they can stop and do the “tricks” (sit, lie down, jump, roll over). I have left instrumental time in the recording for them to do this. As you walk around, you can pat them on the head and say, “Good dog!”

Henry the Dog

I have a little dog, his name is Henry
He’s the best dog that you ever did see
Every morning we go walking
Around the neighborhood,
Henry and me

(spoken tricks: sit, lie down, jump, roll over)
